One of our favourite tips is to set app limits. It's a simple but effective way to be more aware and in control of your usage. We've all been there, constantly on social media, playing games for hours on end or getting lost in messaging apps. Setting a time limit helps you to be more aware and in control of your usage. We in the team have experienced for ourselves how positively these small restrictions affect our everyday lives. It's really easy to set them up on Apple devices because the system already has this built in. On Android devices, you have to download a third-party app, but it's worth it because it works really well.
App-Limits in iOS
If you use an iPhone, you're in luck! Apple has an integrated function called "Screen Time". You can use it to monitor your daily usage and set individual app limits. Simply go to the settings, tap on "Screen Time" and activate it. You can then set a daily usage time for each app. As soon as you reach your limit, the app is automatically blocked – it's that simple!
App-Limits in Android
Android users can also benefit from this useful function. While there isn't an integrated solution like there is with iOS, there are some great third-party apps out there. One of them is "Stay Focused". This app helps you set limits for each application and blocks access if you've exceeded your time. Simply download the app from the Google Play Store, set your limits and enjoy your newfound freedom.
Important!
We really can't stress enough how important it is to protect your screen time settings with a password. It might sound a bit excessive at first, but it's really the only way to avoid cheating yourself. We speak from experience on this one. You'll be amazed at how often people try to get around their own rules when it's too easy. Either get a friend or family member to create the password or write it down on a piece of paper and put it far away. This will stop you from giving in when you're feeling tempted and simply turning off your app limits. It's a simple extra step that makes sure you stick to your own limits and really stay in control of your smartphone usage.
